The family of Calvin Dickey Jr. has filed a lawsuit against Bucknell University claiming negligence in the death of their son, who died after collapsing during a team practice.

Bucknell University has been accused in a wrongful death civil suit of causing the death of a freshman football player who had sickle cell trait. The parents of Calvin Dickey Jr., known as CJ, claim in the suit that“hazing” ordered by an assistant coach was a major factor in his death back on July 12, 2024.

Calvin Dickey Sr. and Nicole Dickey allege that the university, its president, and members of its athletics department failed to follow NCAA guidelines meant to keep student-athletes with sickle cell trait safe, and in doing so caused the death of their son, CJ Dickey.
