Hazel Dukes, former president of the NAACP and longtime president of the civil rights organization’s New York chapter, has died. She was 92.

Hazel Dukes, the president of the New York State chapter of the NAACP and lifelong civil rights advocate, has died.

She was president of the national N.A.A.C.P. in the early 1990s and headed the organization’s New York State Conference from 1977 until her death.
