NEW YORK — Mets catcher Luis Torrens lay face down over home plate after Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker fouled a pitch off his nether region. For what seemed like an eternity, Torrens lay motionless with Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and a trainer kneeling by his side. After a few minutes, Torrens finally rose to his knees, but in agony.

Mets catcher Luis Torrens left Sunday afternoon's game against the Chicago Cubs in the top of the sixth. Torrens remained down for several moments after being struck by a foul ball off the bat of slugger Kyle Tucker. After talking with trainers and trying to battle through it, Torrens walked off and was taken out of the ballgame.

Luis Torrens is considering an equipment change behind the plate following his removal from Sunday’s game after taking a foul tip to the groin area. The Mets catcher was wearing a protective plastic cup, but said he may need something stronger after absorbing so many foul tips over the years.
