The Kansas City Chiefs confirmed Mahomes had successful surgery with Dr. Dan Cooper. The team said rehab will begin right away, but no return date was shared. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the added LCL tear does not guarantee a longer rehab. Still, it adds another layer to the process and raises questions about timing.
Mahomes was injured as he was chased from behind and got tangled up with Chargers lineman Da’Shawn Hand. Mahomes immediately grabbed his knee after it buckled and eventually needed help from two Chiefs staffers to walk to the locker room. The Chiefs have three games remaining in the season.
Mahomes’ knee buckled on a tackle in the final two minutes of Kansas City’s loss to Los Angeles. The quarterback remained down holding his knee before he was helped to the locker room. Video showed him unable to put much weight on his left leg.
