The Senate resent a DHS funding bill back to the House, which didn't try to approve it and won't have another chance until April 6.
The shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is set to stretch on after House Republicans rejected a Senate-passed solution to the standoff late last week.
Congressional Republicans announced a new deal on April 1, saying the House of Representatives would agree to pass a Senate bill to fund DHS – minus Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol – while fast-tracking a budget bill to secure more money for immigration enforcement.
Sen. Chuck Schumer told CNN that it is "not fair" to accuse Democrats of political posturing over the DHS shutdown, claiming they want to reform ICE and CBP.
The House was expected to pass the Senate’s measure funding most of the Homeland Security Department through September on Thursday morning, but didn’t take action.
Employees across CISA, FEMA and the Coast Guard, as well as civilian employees at ICE and CBP, are still not being paid during the shutdown.
