The Kremlin said Tuesday it still plans to honor a 72-hour ceasefire unilaterally proposed by President Vladimir Putin during this week’s Victory Day celebrations, despite Ukraine’s rejection of the truce.

May 9 parade on Moscow’s Red Square, marking the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, comes with added symbolism this year—coinciding with the 80th anniversary of that victory and more than three years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
