Retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis (N.C.) ripped President Trump’s threats against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in recent weeks, amid escalating tensions over the conflict in the Middle East.
President Trump on Friday said the reluctance of NATO allies to provide military assistance to the U.S. is causing him to rethink how much America spends on the alliance. Trump said it was a “tremendous mistake” for NATO countries to stay out of the conflict.
The US President voiced frustration over what he called lack of support from NATO allies in efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz, which has been severely disrupted amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
