Big play No. 1: On the Seminoles’ first drive, they had third-and-11 from the Bama 49. Receiver Squirrel White ran straight go route against true freshman cornerback Dijon Lee to gain 40 yards. On the next play, quarterback Tommy Castellanos kept it for a 9-yard touchdown run.
Castellanos was right: this ain't the same Alabama and no opposing team is getting off the bus worried about the Crimson Tide's mystique. With 4:28 to play in the second quarter, Alabama linebacker Yhonzae Pierre tackled Castellanos near the sideline and briefly stood over him despite trailing by a touchdown with Florida State driving.
Week 1 is officially complete, and fans of one college football team are in full panic mode, according to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum.
Florida State had six explosive rush plays (gain of at least 12 yards), including a 32-yard end-around touchdown by Danzy (one missed tackle) and a game-capping 14-yard touchdown by running back Gavin Sawchuck, who had a few linemen, a few receivers and a few tuba players (OK, not the tuba players) pushing him over the goal-line.
Florida State HC Mike Norvell sent a stern reminder after upsetting No. 8 Alabama, saying the victory was about Seminoles players and fans.
After the first full week of the 2025 season that featured several marquee matchups and some notable upsets, the new Coaches Poll reflects all that happened from a busy slate of college football.
