Officials say crashes involving about 70 vehicles have bottlenecked a section of a snowy Colorado highway and sent eight people to the hospital.

Colorado highway officials closed eastbound Interstate 70 after a major pileup just before 3 p.m. involving dozens and dozens of crashed vehicles.

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contracting partner Quikrete Materials will begin a resurfacing project on Monday, May 4, along Interstate 70.

The Colorado State Patrol said an estimate from responders at the scene showed that about 70 vehicles were involved in the incident.
