The Old Bakery Beer Company in Alton will celebrate Robert Wadlow's 106th birthday at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. Miss Jubilee will perform from 6-8 p.m.

Alton's Gentle Giant: The world's tallest man, Robert P. Wadlow, is memorialized in statue, created by sculptor Edward Giberson of Glen Carbon.

You probably know that the world’s tallest man, as verified by Guinness World Records, was from Alton. Robert Wadlow was 8-feet-11-inches when he died, at just 22, in 1940.
