Laviolette departs with a 94–59–11 regular-season record and a 10–5–1 playoff mark in New York. He became the sixth NHL coach fired after two seasons or less with the franchise and the second straight Rangers coach to be dismissed after two years.

One season after the New York Rangers finished with the best record in the NHL, the team fired head coach Peter Laviolette and associate head coach Phil Housley on Saturday. The Rangers went 55-23-4 (114 points) last season and advanced to the Eastern Conference final where they were eliminated by the Florida Panthers in a six-game series.

Laviolette was hired by the Rangers in June 2023 after Gerard Gallant was fired following a first-round playoff loss to the New Jersey Devils.
