The debate within President Donald Trump's Republican Party over a massive tax-cut and spending bill returns to the House of Representatives on Wednesday, as party leaders try to overcome internal divisions and meet a self-imposed July 4 deadline.

The Tax Policy Center, which provides nonpartisan analysis of tax and budget policy, projected the bill would result next year in a $150 tax break for the lowest quintile of Americans, a $1,750 tax cut for the middle quintile, and a $10,950 tax cut for the top quintile. That’s compared to what they’d face if the 2017 tax cuts expired.

To meet the president’s Friday deadline, the speaker will have to corral his party into accepting a bill several have criticized.

The bill, once formally titled the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” before Democrats filed an amendment to strip the name, now moves back to the House. Speaker Mike Johnson has scheduled a Wednesday vote and previously warned the Senate not to make changes to the House-approved version.
