Houston Mayor John Whitmire took a stab at the city's previous administration, blaming the former mayor for the city's inability to open warming centers during Houston's first freeze. Whitmire and his public safety team joined Chevron officials at a Friday morning press conference to discuss safety precautions and preparation for the colder temperatures ahead of Sunday's Houston Marathon.

Between a deal with the firefighters union and an investigation at the police department, it’s been a busy year.

The Hobby School of Public Affairs will host its signature annual luncheon at the Wortham Center on Thursday, February 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature a one-on-one conversation between Houston Mayor John Whitmire and University of Houston Professor Emeritus and Hobby School Senior Research Fellow Richard Murray.

Mayor John Whitmire said the city is doing everything possible to make things safe for Houstonians, including opening 10 warming centers across the area.
