SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean court early Thursday approved the new arrest of former President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges related to his brief imposition of martial law in December, accepting a special prosecutor’s claim that he poses a risk of destroying evidence.

South Korea's disgraced ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol was detained for a second time Thursday over his declaration of martial law and held in a solitary cell pending investigations into accusations of insurrection.

Senior judge at the Seoul Central District Court, Nam Se-jin, issued the arrest warrant requested by special counsel Cho Eun-suk, citing concerns that Yoon could destroy evidence.
