The stronger Santa Ana winds have the potential to cause 'explosive fire growth,' according to officials, but just what are they? FOX 5's Nick Gregory and Audrey Puente have the story.

At least 24 people have died between the Eaton and Palisades fires and at least 16 people have been reported missing.

After a brief respite, crews from California and nine other states, along with Canadian and Mexican reinforcements, face another round of dangerous conditions.

Since the first flames sparked in the Santa Ana winds on January 7, at least 16 have been confirmed dead, 12,000 structures have been destroyed, and over 150,000 residents have been ordered to leave their homes.

Yet another Santa Ana wind event is set to descend upon the Los Angeles area to begin the week, leading weather officials to issue a Fire Weather Watch. According to NWS, “moderate to locally strong” Santa Ana winds are expected to develop Monday and last through at least Tuesday.

A strong and dry Santa Ana event with extreme fire weather conditions is increasingly likely,” the NWS said in a statement. “This event may be considerably stronger for many areas than the event that we experienced this past Monday through Wednesday.
