The largest piece of Mars ever found on Earth was sold for just over $5 million at an auction of rare geological and archaeological objects in New York on Wednesday, while a juvenile dinosaur skeleton went for more than $30 million.
A 54-pound meteorite from Mars is expected to fetch up to $4 million when it goes up for auction later this month at Sotheby's.

The meteorite was reported to be ejected from the Martian surface due to a "massive asteroid strike" and then traveled 140 million miles through space before landing in the Sahara Desert, according to the release.
