An atmospheric river will likely deliver more rain to the Coachella Valley beginning Wednesday, but totals could be negligible further inland.

There will be a dry spell between storms — and get ready for some cooler temperatures until the rain is gone, plus snow in local mountains.

A strong storm system will sweep across the region on Tuesday and Wednesday bringing Central Illinois the heaviest rain we’ve seen since the end of December, or even early November. As colder air filters in on Wednesday wind driven rain will transition to wind driven snow by Wednesday afternoon.

A quick-hitting storm brought rain to Southern California on Sunday and dumped several inches of snow on the San Bernardino Mountains. Now, forecasters are monitoring another storm system slated to arrive midweek.

A fast-moving storm dropped about a half-inch of rain in parts of Los Angeles County and more rain is on the way, forecasters said Monday.
