The Sun Belt Conference tournament is back. And so is the format known as “The Gauntlet.” Four teams tied atop the Sun Belt standings this season with matching 13-5 records in conference play — South Alabama,

Troy forward Zay Dyer has been named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference in voting among league coaches. Dyer, a 6-foot-2 junior from Atlanta, averages 13.5 points and a league-best 10.5 rebounds per game for the Trojans this season. She leads the Sun Belt in double-doubles with 14.

Shannon was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team. Rose earned All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team honors.

Obinna Anochili-Killen has enjoyed a successful five-year career at Marshall. The Herd’s all-time leader in blocked shots picked up a pair of Sun Belt Conference honors Monday, including being named the league’s top defender. Additionally, Anochili-Killen, who starred at Chapmanville High School, was named to the All-Sun Belt second team.

South Alabama’s Richie Riley is Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in men’s basketball, the league office announced Monday. Riley led the Jaguars to a 21-10 overall record and finished tied for first in the Sun Belt with a 13-5 conference record,

Taryn Todd earned First Team All-Sun Belt billing, while junior forward Izaiyah Nelson earned third-team honors.

Both the ODU men and women basketball teams head to the Sun Belt Tournament in Pensacola this week. At this point of the season, it’s survive and advance. The ODU men are the 10 seed in the tournament while the ODU women are the 5th seed.

Lead the league in scoring and you'll more likely than not be named to the all-conference team. Aislynn Hayes did just that. The Marshall University senior guard averaged 17.4 points per game this regular season and was rewarded Monday by being named All-Sun Belt Conference first team in women's basketball.
