Naked Horse November🤭 I went all in on the ‘No Stirrups November’ theme with Willow and decided to to do No Saddle November…which turned into ‘Naked Horse November’. Let me explain. I started by committing to ride Willow bareback the entire month. She has been ridden bareback before, but it had been awhile. I’ve been working on riding her bridleless, so during my first few bareback rides I notice she was overly sensitive. I committed to simply riding her bareback for the first half of the month

How do you approach body clipping foals if they aren’t halter trained yet? With good technique. The technique is the same one you should use with any horse (approach and retreat) but the application is different. Think about that sentence for a minute. The technique, the idea, the thought, the theory, is approach and retreat. Approach can be outside the stall, inside the stall, five feet away or five inches away. The idea is that you ‘approach’ in some form and ‘retreat’ when the horse responds

I’ve always loved the history of the appaloosa…so when Presto had the chance to participate in a demonstration as a painted pony-I jumped at the chance! Have you been to the Kentucky Horse Park? It is a truly amazing place if you love horses. The Kentucky Horse Park is the world’s only park dedicated to man’s relationship with the horse. The museum is amazing and the horses…the horses… Here is a list of SOME of the horses you can see when you visit: Akhal-teke American Quarter Horse American Cre

The body language in this video🤣 Some of you have asked how the foals will learn ‘horsey stuff’ without being raised by their moms. This is a great example of how. I will choose horses that I know well, and I will let them interact safely with the foals. Here you can see the adult horse, Gabby, pleasantly interacting with Stormy. Have you ever had someone overreact to a comment?😅😂 Gabby makes a small ‘comment’ (her motion with her nose)….and Stormy WAY overreacts. I don’t say that in judgemen

Presto had his yearly dental appointment and I learned a little more about equine dentistry. It always amazes me how sharp the horse's teeth can wear themselves over time. Take a look at this photo of a couple of the ‘caps’ or baby teeth that the dentist removed. The first side is the chewing surface…and you can easily see how sharp some of the edges are. Then I flip the teeth over and you can see the side that was previously attached and growing. Horses quite often lose these baby teeth natural

FLASHBACK: In 2016, I adopted two foals from Last Chance Corral Today, one of those foals will be working at the 2024 Kentucky Derby! I'll do a post in a few minutes with an updated photo of Justice. But I wanted to post this 'flashback' so you could meet 'baby Justice'...and of course baby Presto. Below this is a segment of my original post written in 2016. -------------------------- May 2016: I visited Last Chance Corral's website because I usually do posts in the spring. I had heard that they
